Distinctive Web Services respects and values your privacy, we are committed to protecting it while you browse our web site and take advantage of our services. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 and the new "National Privacy Principles".

This document outlines the kinds of information that may be collected while browsing of our web site and how we use that information.

Important notice to spammers

Due to abuse of our contact forms we now record additional information about the usage on the following forms: "Contact Us", "Request a quotation" and "Request a callback".

Any users who abuse our contact forms for the purposes of sending unsolicited email messages will have their email messages cancelled and have their IP address information published in a public location.

This notice applies only to those who abuse our email facilities, any genuine users will not be affected.

Personal information

Contact Information page

If you send an email via our "Send an Instant Email" feature, please be aware that you will be transmitting the information that you supplied via email (using the SMTP protocol) over the internet to our mail servers. This is a standard practice throughout the internet when submitting contact enquiries via web forms. This email information goes to Distinctive Web Services only.

Quotations

When you submit a "Quotation Request" or a "Call Back Request" electronically via our web site, please be aware that we follow the same procedure as the instant email form on the contact us page.

Non personal information

As you browse our web site, your browser might set a "cookie" which is a small amount of non-personally identifiable information stored on the device that you use to browse our web site.

It is important to note that when you visit any web page, your web browser discloses a small amount of information such as the web page in which you came from, search engine key words used to find our web site, your IP address, the type of browser, operating system that you are using, entry pages and visited pages. Some or all of this information may automatically be recorded by our server and used by Distinctive Web Services to make adjustments and improvements to our web site based on user experiences.

Please note that this information is passed onto every web page that you visit, Distinctive Web Services does not request or require that this be disclosed. If you have concerns regarding the disclosure of this information, please consider purchasing internet security software which can be configured to block most (or all) of this information from being automatically sent.

Disclosure of information

Personal Information

Under no circumstances will any personal information that you provide us be disclosed to any third party without your consent unless there is good cause to do so. An example of a good cause is if Distinctive Web Services is legally required to do so either by law or court ruling, as well as cases where a service that you request requires transmission of some information to a third party to either assist us in providing a service to you and/or enabling you to receive a requested service.

Non personal information

Distinctive Web Services does not publish any personally identifiable information, although certain situations might arise where we may publish some non personal information. An example of this kind of publishing is a sentence such as "Distinctive Web Services web site received over 400 visits on the first week of July 2010", or "most of our visitors use the Mozilla Firefox web browser".

Retention of information

Personal Information

Any personal information will be treated with strict confidentiality and used only for the purposes of a business relationship between Distinctive Web Services and you. Where feasible you can request that your personal information be erased form our records. In situations where you are conducting or have conducted business with Distinctive Web Services we might be unable to erase all information that you provide us with for book keeping and/or legal reasons.

Non personal information

Any non personal information supplied to us is stored on our server logs as statistical information. We may keep this information for months or even years so that we are better able to understand visitor trends on our web site. We can not erase this information at your request because there is no way to identify what information originated as a result of your actions while visiting our web site.

Unsolicited email or "SPAM"

Distinctive Web Services does not send any unsolicited email (known as "spam"). Distinctive Web Services does operate a mailing list which it occasionally sends and you will only ever receive a mass mail message if you have an existing business relationship with Distinctive Web Services (and its parent/child companies) or if you explicitly specify that you wish to receive correspondence from Distinctive Web Services.

To remove yourself from any email list, please send an email to mail@distinctive.com.au with the word "Unsubscribe" in the subject header.

Access to information that we keep about you

If you require access to the information that we have about you, please request it by sending us an email outlining your request and the reasons why you require it. We will try and respond to this request within 30 days.
